Tonight, an old Calgary institution re-opened. They put out a Facebook event listing and I was planning on going. I even confirmed that I was “attending”.
But the weather didn’t really seem right, after all it was like -20 C with windchill. Also, looking at the event on Facebook, it seemed like 500 plus people were going. Now, as to how many people showed up is a good question.
That makes me think, it’s kinda pointless to have an event listing on Facebook. Yes, it’s a great way of promotion, I get that. But it’s also quite pointless. If you have like 1000 members of a group and like half say they are planning on attending, how many of them are actually going to show? I’m not talking about that club now, I’m talking in general. Several promoters of events have giant Facebook groups and fan pages and do a big mass invite.
I say just buy an ad on the side of the page. Web advertising works great, this site does a lot of web advertising and we’re crawling in the visitors.
Plus, someone that read the invite like 2 days after it went out might decide not to go. Especially when he see’s that 500 people are planning on attending the event.
Although, I would’ve liked to have gone. Damn job keeping me late.
Would You Have Gone?
