Why New Year’s in the Best Holiday

December 27th, 2009 · Comments

The other week at work, I got into a mini-feud with this girl in this other department.

Technically I’ve lost since I’m in the very, very, very, very small group that not only doesn’t like Christmas but actually prefers New Years.

However in the heat of the “fight”, I would up sounding like an immature jerk who claimed to only like New Years for the partying.

So, here’s why I like New Years…

I prefer to think of New Years as a chance to refresh, renew and re-energize. It’s a way to think about the last year and all of it’s successes and failures although one tends to outweigh the other. And to think ahead to what you can do in the New Year and hopefully not screw up!

The best way to analyze that is to spend January 1st in bed with a mighty hangover, you know, the one where it’s hard to walk? All that time spent in bed watching television should make you think about all that. After all, if you’ve partied enough and gotten just completely smashed, well you don’t really have a choice but to lie in bed all day and let it work itself off.

Also, New Years is one of the few “politically-correct” greetings. Everyone celebrates it, even if it’s in January in the case of Chinese New Year which in itself is really a cool event.

So Happy New Year Everyone!
