4 Days Later: Rider’s fans still aren’t happy

December 3rd, 2009 · Comments

In a follow-up to a post we brought you on Sunday regarding a Facebook group that grew to several thousand members in less than 2 hours in response to “the 13th man” on the field at the Grey Cup game, I thought we’d take a look at what that very same group is currently doing.

The general tone of the group has gone from “FUCK THE 13TH MAN!” to completely fragmented, as one would expect. One half of the group is taking a tone that’s less extreme while another group of folks are of course still upset (it’s been 4 days, c’mon! You don’t see Calgary Flames fans still upset over losing the Stanley Cup Game in 2004 even though the goal CLEARLY went in the damn net and the chicken shit ref’s didn’t count it and letting the bastards in Tampa take the Cup 2 days later). Another half are taking the tone to forgive the team and the 13th man who the Roughriders will never reveal (despite the fact that TSN poured over the footage and discovered it was Sean Lucas, oops).

They’ve peaked at about 9,500 members now and it’ll probably stay that way. But it’s really a testament to what the internet and more recently, what Facebook has done. You can now see something happening and have a Facebook group started within minutes and attract attention from other people, thousands of other people.

Broadcasters and advertisers outta think about trying to tie the two together…

Most of the people I know that hail from old Saskatchewan haven’t talked about the game since then or have moved on. That may be their prerogative and that’s all fine and great.

Either way, there’s always next year.

Another site you may want to inquire is 13thman.com. It seems to cover all things sports in Western Canada. One of their most popular threads happens to be this one.
