Canadian TV in CRISIS! Day…the rest of them

November 17th, 2009 · Comments

Well, the hearings continue with the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and Bell Canada (owners of Bell TV Satellite).

Frankly it was more of the same, CBC (a broadcaster) said they need value for their signal while Bell (a distributor) said they didn’t have their eye on the big picture and just wanted a bailout.

I have the feeling that the entire hearing will be like this.  Shaw Communications – a very vocal supporter of not giving the broadcasters a dime and charging consumers extra – and their president  who is a real character will likely be interesting to hear from.  Judging from the recent behavior of the head of the CRTC, Konrad van Finckenstein, THAT is going to be an interesting meetup between them.

The head of the CRTC, Konrad van Finckenstein went after both sides without mercy on the first day –  the broadcasters and distributors.  Tomorrow, more broadcasters and distributors will speak and various unions so…

I’ll let ya know if anything happens that’s out of the ordinary.  I don’t think much good is going to come out of these hearings.
