Save the local TV tax?

October 13th, 2009 · Comments

Currently, Canada is in the midst of it’s own public battle.

Instead of healthcare, two sides are waging war over a simple matter.  We already have public healthcare and as far as I can tell, most Canadians are happy with that and wouldn’t wish American healthcare on their worst enemy.

No, no, instead Canada’s local TV broadcasters are waging war with the cable and satellite companies that carry their signals.  Music videos, commercials, full page advertisements are being taken out all in the hopes that the public will listen and either support the local TV stations or hope they go off the air forever.

I’m in favour of the TV stations on one condition.

They ban the weather forecasts.

I don’t want some guy or gal telling me what it’s going to be out there, how hot it is, how cold it is, etc…

Look, I’ll decide what my weather is.  If I want to wear a winter coat, I will and if I want to wear shorts then so be it.  If my 45 cents is going to CTV or Global, then I want a say in the editorial process.  NO MORE WEATHER FROM YOU!  Also, I’m not a fan of sports of all kinds (hence, that’s why I run a blog) so I’d like to have the sports report removed – along with the sports channels to be honest.

I’ll write the CRTC in your favour Canwest/CTVglobemedia/CBC/CHEK News, just as long as you listen to me and my demand.  You want my 45 cents each?  You drop weather, sports and pet of the week.
