To Whom it May Concern,
I’m concerned about losing my local television station. I believe it’s important to have a strong local television system that provides Canadians in every province and territory with Canadian choices, and community voices.
It’s time for my cable company to do what is right and negotiate a fair market price for the local television signals that they charge me, and that they get for free. Without fair compensation, we will lose our local television stations, and with that, a part of our unique Canadian identity.
I’m also concerned that my cable company is threatening to charge me more for the same services while they continue to earn record profits at my expense. This is a cable company rip-off and I already pay enough for cable.
However, I also ask that we as viewers get more of a voice, actually by I, I mean me. I personally want more of a voice when it comes to local TV. I want to be granted editorial control of the stations. I want the weather report taken away, weather makes people depressed and frankly I think we’ve all had enough of it.
Also, I don’t care for those pet of the week segments so take those away – sorry, when I get editorial control, I’ll take them away. I’ll decide if I want a pet when I see one and I’ll decide what to wear outside without some guy telling me how cold it is.
I urge you to do what is right. Stop my cable company from charging me more, and ensure the survival of local television stations by giving local TV a chance to negotiate. And give me editorial control.
Hopefully by the time you’ve read this out loud or someone else has, they’ll have realized that all the cash that went into these campaigns could’ve gone back to the programming that Canwest/CTVgm/CBC need to save or the cash that could’ve been paid to these same companies from the BDU’s. That kid with the 2 minute music video against the cable companies probably didn’t do that for free.
However, if you could bring in a la carte options for basic cable, I’d appreciate it. I never watch TSN, why should I pay for that? I’d rather that 45 cents go to Global or CTV.
Apologies for being a smart ass.
