My adventures trying to get an H1N1 shot…

October 26th, 2009 · Comments

Alberta Health Services (AHS) have offered H1N1 shots starting today.  In the City of Calgary, 4 clinics have been set-up to administer these shots.  Calgary has a total of just a little over 1 million people…

In contrast the City of Toronto has set up 10 clinics – just in the City of Toronto.  All neighboring cities and municipalities have set up their own clinics.  The clinic I went to in Calgary was one of it’s smallest shopping malls, it has one small hallway and another one connecting you to a Safeway store.

As I walked in, I walked right through a line of people.  The line was at one end of the hall leading to the Safeway, across the front of that store and then down the other wall and then it ends in a storefront where they are administering the drug.  So then after THAT, I tried to find the beginning of the line.

I walked down the other hallway where I saw people who were basically ready to camp out.  They had those folding camping chairs, they had iPods, in the case of some of the families I saw there, they were with each other.

I spent five minutes trying to find the start of the lineup – I have a feeling where it might be, I think it’s between a Hallmark store and another vacant storefront.  So yeah, today I couldn’t even find the start of the line.  Maybe the City of Calgary and AHS outta open another few clinics.  I’m not one to criticize usually but I mean, c’mon how the hell could you NOT see lots of people wanting this?  Was it budgetary?  Find money, c’mon!

Oh, this mall had a Starbucks which had it’s own line.  Normally Starbucks does have a line but I think this time it was H1N1 shot attendees making it grow larger.  Even in times of great uncertainty, Starbucks is still there dishing out coffee.  Either way, I’ll try my luck again, hopefully at a better time of day.
