The Trouble With…being a workaholic

August 12th, 2009 · Comments

Hey there,

So being a “workaholic” can lead to many, many, many health issues later in life.  However, I’m not a doctor and this is not a place where you will hear about being healthy and living life to it’s fullest.  We’re apathetic people, c’mon!

In terms of losing your social life, it’s bad man.  Sometimes, you’ll find yourself working with only one day off in the middle of 2-five day workweeks and having a “super long-weekend” later on.

And all you do is work and sleep!  Nothing, you miss out on parties, various activities, a few illicit activities – nothing too illegal.  And it makes you think, what are you doing with yourself?

But alas, vacation time comes around and you fly out.  You check out a new city, see what’s it like and boom, you bring your netbook and start hacking into wifi networks in the area.  For others, it’s a Crackberry that’s the weapon of choice.  You check e-mail, you look at things, respond…not really a vacation.

Of course, another thing is that you don’t realize your surroundings.  You get so focused working and working that you don’t pay attention to a pedestrian crossing sign and suddenly a train derailment happens because of you.

Those are some major issues of being a workaholic.  You also don’t realize things about yourself.

For example, I was on a train and my iPod was dead.  So I looked at a mirror for a while and discovered I had a hutterite beard growing.  Wow, my boss was right.  Sadly, I don’t have time to shave, I’ve been doing reports while writing this update and I’m running late for my bus.

Maybe next vacation…
